Welcome to britishsikhcouncil.org.uk

“Religion must have the sublime purpose of uniting mankind rather than dividing it. Surely life’s purpose is harmony and peace, love, and respect, service and humility, goodwill and tolerance.” Guru Nanak (A.G.G.S. Jee)

The British Sikh Council UK was founded in April, 2002, aimed at propagating Guru Granth Sahib Jee’s mission of a Haleemi Raj (a secular society where all are equal).

Aims and Objectives of the British Sikh Council

  • For the welfare of mankind, run charitable projects for the impoverished and  downtrodden people particularly for the purpose of embracing our long separated the Sikligar Sikhs, the Vanjara Sikhs, the Kabir Panthee Sikhs and the Satnamme Sikhs who are living in horrendous poverty.

  • Provide financial assistance for building Gurdwaras and schools, providing clean drinking water, setting up health and eye camps and strive towards elevating the living standards of neglected people, especially underprivileged Sikhs in India.

  • Endeavour to get Sikh traditions recognised in all sectors, including both public and private services, educational institutions, sports and British society as well.

  • Encourage the Sikh youth to actively participate in British politics, sports, join the British Armed Forces and police force, learn the Panjabi language as well as Sikh traditions and liaise with the Sikh youth associations throughout the UK.

  • Discourage illicit practices that are not in keeping with Sikh scriptures and national laws.

  • Sikhism has now assumed the role of a World Religion. It is distinct from other religions and has something tangible to offer mankind. As the former President of America, Mr J.W. Clintonrightly said on Guru Nanak’s birthday celebrations in November, 1998, “...the whole problem of Human’s Rights can be solved if we start believing in Guru Nanak’s teachings.”
